High School • Starting quarterback for Seattle High School (renamed Broadway) • Led team to victory over North Division High of Chicago in national championship game • Also played baseball (center field) and ran track (hurdles) for the Tigers College • Captain and four-year starting quarterback at University of Washington • Believed to be the only starting quarterback in college football history to go undefeated for four years • Earned eight varsity letters (four in football, three in baseball and one in track and field), more than any other athlete in the school's history Other • Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for "extraordinary heroism" in action during World War I • Served as Washington State Lieutenant Governor from 1921-1925 • Inducted into UW’s Husky Hall of Fame in 1980, honored in three sports • Posthumously inducted into State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 2009
